U G C W I T H T W O E V E N T S N E X T Y E A R ! |November 3rd 2005| Shidokan Germany has decided to split the annual "Ultimate Grappling Challenge" into two events - one to be held in March and one will be hosted in September. In spring 2006 the UGC VII will feature only the "Beginners" division for fighters with less than 5 tournaments experience and/or below Purplebelt. Plus there will be an additional "Rookie" division for fighters who will compete for the first time at a tournament. This will give the athletes the safety to test their skill and will against athletes with the same experience. Classes and divisions will start from children to adults in both divisions. In September at UGC VIII we will see only fights in the "Advanced" division with professional and experienced fighters from all around the world. So there will be two great events in the next year: one for the new and coming generation of Grapplers and one for the Pros.

U G C 6 I S E X P L O D I N G ! |July 8th 2005| Whow!!! We are overwhelmed! Every day we receive more and more applications from top-level athletes from all over Europe to compete in the UGC 6. First of all we would like to express our thanks to all of you and we know that we will work hard to make it an event you will never forget! Due to the fact, that we have so many applicants who are really worth to test their skill at UGC 6, we have changed one regulation for this Championship: there will be no limitations to the number of competitors in all Advanced-Divisions! We easily blew the "magic number" of 8 in the -76 kg division weeks ago and the numbers are still growing... We will provide a very good structure and organization, so we can handle this big number of participants. As it looks right now the UGC 6 will be the biggest Submission Wrestling Tournament in Europe so far.

Three month prior to one of Europe's biggest Grappling events, the free spots in the "Advanced" division are filling fast! With applications from Norway, UK, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany, Poland and the USA the UGC becomes a real INTERNATIONAL affair! The organizing comitte decided to add one alternate match to every division, allowing a total of 10 competitors to fight in each division for the gold. The alternates will fight a special match and the winner will replace any fighter, who drops out of the tournament due to injury etc. The -76,9 kg division shows already 9 fighters from all over Europe! "Until July 1st we will accept all applications, regardless of the number of applicants, because we know, how fast it happens, that athletes get injured during preparation for an event. We will have 12 fighters total in each division: 8 fighters for the main bracket, two for the alternate match and two in reserve, if someone shortly drops out prior to the event", states UGC Match-Maker Peter Angerer, an ADCC and USS veteran by himself.

K A Z E K A C A N N O T F I G H T I N A S U P E R F I G H T ! |June 6th 2005| It would have been a world class addition to the UGC, but it will not happen! The UGC staff contacted two time BJJ World Champion Kazeka Muniz of Gracie Barra to compete in a Superfight at UGC 6. Last night the brazilian black belt called our match-maker Peter Angerer and explained, that he will not be able to get the fight at UGC, because he is in a trainings camp in the USA all September. But Kazeka was seriously interested in a SHIDO MMA match in fall 2005 in Germany! So chances are high, that the german fans can see the brazilian phenomenon in action this year.
